AT&T opens 2 stores

For better or worse, Bronxites love Blackberries, iPhones and Sidekicks. To address the wireless demand, AT&T opened two new stores in the Bronx on Thursday, June 4 at Bruckner Plaza and Westchester Avenue.

Deputy Borough President Aurelia Greene and Councilwoman Annabel Palma stopped by a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“AT&T is building a strong relationship with out borough, bringing economic benefits to Bronxites,” Greene said. “The borough president’s office is pleased to support any company that will create jobs and offer quality service to our residents.”

The Bruckner Plaza store, at 1949 Turnbull Avenue, will be open Monday-Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The second store, at 1559 Westchester Avenue, between the Elder Avenue and Soundview Avenue el stations, will be open Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Both stores will offer national and international long distance service. AT&T has a handful of prepaid calling plans, as well.

The two new stores allow customers to experiment with the latest in wireless technology, AT&T New York-New Jersey vice president Tom DeVito said. AT&T employees will invite you to “try before you buy.”

One new AT&T phone boasts a GPS device. One new phone application helps you keep track of your family. Albania Almonte and Aileen Betances will manage the Bruckner Plaza and Westchester Avenue stores, respectively.

According to DeVito, AT&T offers the broadest global coverage of any U.S. provider, with voice roaming available in more than 200 countries. The wireless giant operates 56 stores in New York City.

“AT&T is meeting the needs of the community in an appropriate and responsible way,” Palma said.

Bronx police warn wireless users to employ common sense. A high percentage of robberies involve Blackberries, iPhones and Sidekicks, etc.
