American Civics Institute offers free tutoring services

The American Civics Institute is offering free tutoring services to all students in the Morris Park area thanks to a donation of space from an area fitness center.

Students who wish to enroll in the program, which pairs up children in grades 3 through 6 with high school students in Cardinal Spellman High School’s Service Society, should visit the Morris Park Community Association in person on any Tuesday between 6 and 7 p.m. The MPCA is located at 1824 Bronxdale Avenue.

The students who enroll in the free program can be tutored in any subject, and their high school study partners will always be under the supervision of a licensed teacher. The tutoring takes place at New York Sports Club at 1601 Bronxdale Avenue. The club is donating space for the tutoring, which takes place in a conference center at the gym after school hours.

“We are proud to contribute to this worthwhile program which promotes sound physical and mental health,” said New York Sports Club general manager Edward Ruiz at a celebration recently in honor of the new program.

Morris Park Community Association president Al D’Angelo and Sal Conforto founded the American Civics Institute last year. The aim of the group is to promote civic engagement.
