Live from the Bronx, it’s Saturday Night!
On Saturday, July 11, at 8 p.m. you will have a chance to laugh, cry, smile and cheer as the Bruckner Bar & Grill, located 1 Bruckner Boulevard, becomes a venue for a Bronx version of Saturday Night Live.
“Anytime someone comes up with an idea of doing something in the back room, we sit with them and see what they want to do and if it sounds like something interesting, we help them put it together. We offer something different. We are not like a regular bar,” said Amir Chayon, manager of the Bruckner Bar & Grill. “I’m also helping with the lights and the sounds and the music. We are doing it for a good cause, to fight cancer, and we want to help with that.”
All proceeds from ‘Saturday Night Live at the Bruckner’ will be used towards the completion of a documentary, entitled ‘Life In The Balance,’ produced and directed by Yixi Villar and Bashir Solebo. The film is to raise awareness on an individualized chemotherapy treatment and medical practices by following the lives of doctors and patients affected.
“We will not be making that much money from the show itself, but what we are doing is raising awareness,” said the shows producer, Aimiende Negbenebor.
The show is divided into three themed segments, highlighting love, solemnity, and festivity, with a five-minute clip of the documentary being aired during the second part of the two-hour event.
Guests will enjoy stand-up comedy, live musical performances, belly dancing, poetry readings, modern dancing and more by an array of talented artists that include Negbenebor, Donna Wilson, Elektra, Holland Gedney, Passion, and Shara Strand.
“All the artists are incredible, and amazingly talented,” said Negbenebor. “And we have a special guest comedian performing at the end. It’s a really good show.”
Tickets are $ 15 and can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling (201) 600-9420; bar specials will be available all night. A raffle will also be held with various prizes.
