Pelham/Split Rock celebrates $10.8 million rehab

On a beautiful summer day what better place to be than on the green?

The Pelham Bay & Split Rock Golf Courses celebrated their official grand reopening with guests, members, staff and local leaders on Tuesday, July 14, marking the occasion with an official ribbon cutting.

“When people ask me my favorite park, I can’t pick one, but I have a top five, and Pelham Bay is definitely in the top 5. This is a spectacular park,” said Adriane Benepe, NYC Parks & Recreation Commissioner. “American Golf is truly a wonderful partner for the city. This is a spectacular day for the city, parks, and the Bronx.”

Opened in 1901, the location has undergone $ 10.8 million in reconstruction over the last three years.

Through the American Golf Corporation, New York City Events is available to host many occasions within the banquet pavilion that seats up to 200, along the outdoor patio, or in one of the smaller rooms for a more intimate setting or corporate event. For those who feel like dining out, the new Saalburg Cafe restaurant will become a favorite destination.

“We are delighted with this investment, which is symbolic for what is happening here in the Bronx,” said Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “It is important for people to see that here in the Bronx, not only do we deserve the best, but we are getting the best.”

The two 18-hole courses are available for golf pros, those just learning, or people simply looking to enjoy the great outdoors. The location also includes a full golf pro shop on the grounds.

Pelham/Split Rock Golf Course, located 870 Shore Road, which is one of 13 public golf courses in the city, gives each guest the setting and treatment found at many private courses.

“We live in a concrete city; you see buildings, you see brick, you see asphalt,” said Councilman Joel Rivera. “We need to appreciate our greenery. We have made a substantial investment over the years and this is a crown jewel in the Bronx.”
