Justine Perry’s is taking her training to the streets.
One of the 6-foot-4 Food and Finance center’s goals this offseason is to improve her conditioning. To do so, Perry is running through the streets of the Bronx on a regular basis for up to 30 or 40 minutes.
“I mix it up,” Perry said of the routes.
The Bronx native has certainly proved her mobility to Gauchos AAU coach Earl Elliotte. Perry joined his club this season after her previous team, Abyssinian, disbanded. Elliotte said he had seen Perry play in the past and knew she would be an asset to the squad.
Playing for the Gauchos has given Perry an opportunity to play with and against better competition on a regular basis as well as a much larger schedule of games then she was used to with Abyssinian. She is the lone New York City girl on the roster that includes players committed to major Division I programs such as Ohio State and West Virginia. She admitted it has been tough, but something that will be ultimately beneficial in the long run for her senior season at Food and Finance.
