Police checkpoint finds 2 pounds of marijuana

In the continuing effort to get drugs off the street, the 49th precinct has yet again made an arrest for possession of illegal drugs.

In response to numerous complains of excessive speeding in the Van Nest region, a vehicle safety check point was set up on Van Nest Avenue on Thursday, August 6.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. Officer Veazer and Officer Bakraqi stopped the driver of a 2000 BMW, and asked for the license and registration.

The driver, Omar Brown, produced a fake license and was arrested. Upon further investigation it was discovered that Brown, a 29 year old residing at 2823 Barker Avenue, also had a suspended license.

Brown was brought into the 49th Precinct and upon vouchering his vehicle, two pounds of marijuana were found hidden in his trunk.

Brown was arrested for possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and possession of a forged instrument.
