BP issues ‘Back to School’ guide

The office of Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. has issued a “Back to School” guide containing helpful tips for parents regarding the upcoming school year. The guide, which is available on the borough president’s website and will be issued to schools and community organizations across the Bronx, includes information on registering students for public school, determining a student’s zoned schools and finding school transportation, as well as information on programs for special education students and English Language Learners (ELL). The guide is available in both English and Spanish.

“The beginning of the school year can be a very stressful time for parents and students alike. My hope is that this resource will be a helpful first step for those parents in need of assistance navigating the public school system,” said.

Diaz’ office is also partnering with the organization Advocates for Children to conduct a series of education workshops for parents beginning in the fall. The workshops will all occur in the first floor rotunda of the Bronx County Courthouse, located at 851 Grand Concourse.

The first workshop, which will take place on September 21 from 6 to 8 p.m., is titled “General Education: Rights of Students and Parents.” This workshop will discuss issues such as enrollment, transfer and transportation, and voluntary and involuntary transfers and discharges.
