Annual Orchard Beach car show

Get ready to rev your engines as car enthusiasts prepare for the 9th annual Orchard Beach Classic Car & Motorcycle Show presented by the Eastcoast Classic Car Association.

Joe Caldwell and John Monsolino, president and nice president of the Eastcoast Classic Car Association, are inviting everyone to witness what has now become the largest single day car show on the eastern coast; a show that originally began in 2001 to benefit the victims of 9/11.

Money raised will be donated to the NYC Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association and two children’s organizations. Last year approximately $35,000 was donated.

This year the shows is expected to be bigger and better than ever, with over 2,000 cars on display and approximately 1,000 motorcycles, including the Hollywood Knights Project X 57 Chevy.

As has become a tradition during the event, a bike run will leave from Orchard Beach at 10 a.m. traveling to ground zero and back. The fee for the run is $10.

Additionally, from approximately 9 to 10 a.m., some of the NY Yankees star players will be on hand to meet and greet with kids at the show.

“This year we are definitely going to have top players,” said Caldwell, a retired highway officer who now works as security for the NY Yankees. “We have to give a special thanks to George Steinbrenner for his continued support of the show and to the players.”

Other guest appearances include DJ Serg of Pulse 87.7 FM, Vincent Pastore and cast members of the Sopranos, Chuck Zito, and stars of the WWE. Joe Causi of WCBS 101.1 FM and Goumba Johnny of KTU will be hosting live radio coverage at the show.

With musical entertainment, guest appearances and vendors set up for food and snack, this promises to be an event the entire family will enjoy.

“It’s a beautiful day out with the family,” said Caldwell, who belongs to over 17 car clubs. “It offers different things. People can come see cars and motorcycles, plus meet celebrities and players and enjoy some good food.”

During the show, 300 raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win a nicely restored 1968 Impala S Fastback. Tickets are $100 each.

The show will be held Sunday, September 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Orchard Beach parking lot, with a $20 entrance fee for those who wish to display their vehicle, which admits up to two occupants per car or bike. For all other spectators the cost is $10 to visit the show.
