The Woodlawn Cemetery will host its Lost Symbols Tour on Sunday, September 20 at 2 p.m.
Dan Brown could have taken his inspiration for his latest book on lost symbols from The Woodlawn Cemetery. The historic New York resting place is home to many memorials and mausoleums decorated with the unique and distinguishing symbols of the Freemasons. Among the famous masons in Woodlawn’s care are composer Irving Berlin, illusionist Alexander Herrmann (“Herrmann the Great”), vaudeville star Bert Williams, and many others.
During the tour, participants will learn about the mysterious organization and the elaborate designs that grace the graves of the Freemasons, such as the most common Masonic symbol, the square and compass. Tour groups will also discover the symbols of the Shriners and the Royal Order.
