AFC Rapid Soccer Opening Day

On Sunday, September 13, the AFC Rapid Junior Soccer Club kicked off the 2009/2010 season with the annual parade down East Tremont Avenue to Cintron Field at Balcolm Avenue and Barkley Avenue. The throng of approximately 700 parents, coaches and players arrived at 9:30 a.m. and were greeted with the flag raising to “God Bless America” and a speech from league president, Stefan Manz.

A full, schedule of shortened matches ensued with highlights as follows:

The “body men” from Finest Auto Body “put the dents” in American A-1 Auto Center, 2-1. The “O” was carried by Alyssa Hill and Ryan DeLuca with a goal a each. A brick wall defense was created by Ralph Balsamo, Darren Walsh and Lorenzo Jennoson. Theresa Walsh was solid in the goal.

McNulty Funeral Home “enbombed” the attorneys of the office T.Rodriquez, 5-0. The directors were led by Nicky Kola (2), Peter Shadwick (2)+ 1 assist and Brian Kimmel (1). Saying th prayers were Kaitlyn Brandsteter, Brian Kimmel and Allie & Riley Walsh. Setting the headstone was the goalie tandem of Aiden Kimmel & Craig Brandstetter with the shutout.

The Medical staff at Westchester-Bronx OB/GYN tied Seal Tite Builders, 1-1. The lone goal for Westchester was scored by Maryellen Doino with an assist by Gina Saverino. Strong offense from Anna Savino, Rhianna Perduzzi and Lisa Popovich. Tough defense from Kaitlin Boyle, Kristen Parisi and Brittany Peters.

The yachtsmen from Locust Point made strong impression on Lasting Impressions, 2-0. Hoisting the sails for sailors Carlos Mercado and Michael Janny. Manning the oars on offense were Brandon Gray and Onoufrios Argyros. Tieing down the rigging were Jonathan Keeney and Ryan Daly.

Pro Active Physical Therapy played Capital Shield Agency to a 1-1 tie. Scoring the lone goal for Pro Active was Kenny Banker, who was ably supported by Frank Lubelli, Jake Valadaris and John Healy. Christina Santina and Luke Valaders played solid “D”. Outstanding keeper play from Dimitri Franklin. The goal for the Shield was scored by Ricky Rivera. The offensive push came from Rena Beban, Frank Rizzo and Hannah Rigoglioso. The defensive unit was supplied by Jennifer Natale, Justin Diobaldo and Patrick Connolly.

The counter men from Crosstown Diner “grilled” Soma Health Club. 1-0. Zenaida Perez scored the only goal of the match. Other standouts for Crosstown were Mateo Nonis, Christopher Guarino, Liam Tighe and keeper, Adrian Kuka. Pumping the iron for Soma were Jordan Fair, Aine Sheehan, Aidin Pelinkovic, Albert Rugova and SicdorelaZefi.
