Bronx Dems endorse Liu

The Bronx County Democratic Party endorsed Queens Councilman John Liu for City Comptroller on Friday, September 18.

“John has been a consistent voice for communities across the city, especially underrepresented communities like ours in the Bronx,” Bronx County chair Carl Heastie said. “On top of his advocacy on the issues that matter most to middle-class families, John’s fiscal expertise is the kind of leadership we need for the 21st century global economy.”

Heastie and the Bronx County Dems initially endorsed Queens Councilwoman Melinda Katz for Comptroller. But on Tuesday, September 15, Liu and Brooklyn Councilman David Yassky beat Katz and Queens Councilman David Weprin to a runoff election, set for Tuesday, September 29.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Bronx Democratic County Committee,” Liu said.

Liu, who emigrated from Taiwan as a child, attended Bronx High School of Science. Heastie and the Bronx County Dems are backing Brooklyn Councilman Bill deBlasio in his runoff against Mark Green for Public Advocate.

“John Liu has exemplified quality, active leadership in the City Council,” Castle Hill Councilwoman Annabel Palma said.
