SUNY Maritime football team sets 4 home games

What better way to spend a fall afternoon or evening than going to a college football game?

For a great family outing that’s free of charge, it’s hard to beat an afternoon or evening of NCAA football at Maritime College on the scenic Throggs Neck, waterfront campus.

In October and early November, Maritime will play four home games. Admission and parking are free and refreshments are available at the concession stand.

On Saturday, October 3, at 4 p.m., Maritime will meet Anna Maria College of Paxton, MA. The following Saturday, October 10, Columbus Day Weekend, at 1:30 p.m., the Maritime Privateers will play Castleton State College of Castleton, VT, for the college’s Homecoming.

Saturday, October 24, at 1 p.m., Maritime football salutes the the Warriors Football Club and Maritime plays Mount Ida College of Newton, MA.

The Warriors Football Club, under director of football, Jerry Demers, have a long history with Maritime and a strong partnership. Coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes says that Warriors Peewee Football Day will be “a great day for families to come together and enjoy a great college football game, and celebrate the Warriors who do so much for our kids and our community.”

The final Maritime College home football game of the 2009 season will be played under the lights on Friday, November 6 at 7 p.m., against Gallaudet. And, as an added bonus, fans will have the chance to sample the finest chili this side of the Rio Grande when the second annual “FDNY Bronx Firehouse Chili Cook Off” takes place.

Last year, six Bronx firehouses participated and served up their best chili. Fans vote for the winner! “We all owe our brave firemen a great deal of thanks. What better way to show our support for them than to sample some of the best chili I’ve ever had, cooked up by some of the best chefs in New York City!”

Maritime also hosts men’s and women’s soccer and rugby matches, cross country meets, volleyball games, and sailing regattas. Fans are welcome at all competitions and there is no admission fee for events on the Maritime campus. To learn more, visit www.maritimeathletics.com.
