West Nile alert

Assemblyman Michael R. Benedetto wants his constituents to be aware that the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has issued an alert as to the presence of West Nile Virus activity in his 82nd Assembly District.

“We have received information that this activity has been detected in both Waterbury and Throggs Neck,” said Benedetto.

• Use repellents that contain DEET, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, IR3535, or Picaridin and always follow label instructions.

• If outside from dusk to dawn, wear protective clothing if possible, such as loose-fitting pants, long-sleeved shirts, and socks.

• Make sure that your doors and windows have tight-fitting screens. Fix or replace screens that have tears or holes.

“It is also very important to reduce mosquito exposure around your home,” continued Benedetto. Following are some ways this can be accomplished:

• Eliminate any standing water that collects on your property or help neighbors to eliminate standing water on their properties. and Call 311 to report standing water.
