49th honors 3 as ‘Cops of Month’

During the 49th Precinct Community Council Meeting, the heroics and dedication of three men were honored with the September ‘Cop of the Month’ Award, sponsored by Senator Jeff Klein.

Sergeant Allen Gonzalez, Police Officer Angel Rosario and Police Officer Edwin Crespo were presented with the award on Tuesday, September 29 for the significant arrests made this past August.

Gonzalez and Rosario were responsible for a heroine bust in front of 2156 White Plains Road on Tuesday, August 26. At 5:15 p.m., Axel Morales, a 34-year-old male Hispanic, and David Sanchez, a 34-year-old male Hispanic, were arrested after being observed during a drug deal.

Morales, who resides at 3215 Bainbridge Avenue, had no prior arrests. Sanchez, a resident of 2055 Crugar Avenue, had a prior arrest for forgery.

During the arrest the duo was found in possession of 230 decks of heroine.

Officer Crespo is responsible for the arrest of Peter Gonzalez, a 19-year-old Hispanic male residing at 1574 Beach Avenue.

Gonzalez was responsible for a shooting in the Van Nest area on Baker Avenue and Garfield Street on July 13 and was also linked to a reckless endangerment incident with shots fired on Garfield Street and Van Nest Avenue.

He was arrested on Thursday, August 27 at 6:10 p.m.

Additionally, Crespo made a significant arrest of an individual that had been wanted for home invasion in the Eastchester Houses.

“They are doing a fantastic job, all our officers are doing a fantastic job,” said Captain John Greeley. “These were exceptional arrests that helped out the community.”
