Cookies for Kids’ Cancer holiday bazaar

The fourth annual Christmas bazaar at Jeanne Jugan Residence on Saturday, November 14 includes a Cookies for Kids’ Cancer bake sale with proceeds going to pediatric cancer research.

Organizers are asking for both donations of baked sweets, and purchases of scrumptious treats.

The Cookies for Kids’ Cancer bake sale piggybacks on the bazaar put on every year at the assisted-living residence, located at 2999 Schurz Avenue. Peggy Vega and Rosemarie Vetter are organizing the bake sale. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Glad Products Company is partnering with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer to raise money and awareness, and will match funds raised at bake sales up to $100,000. The proceeds go directly to support pediatric cancer research.

“We thought that this was a very special effort because no one seemed to be doing anything for pediatric cancer research,” Vega said. “I saw something about Cookies for Kids’ Cancer in a magazine, and thought it sounded like an easy project. I have lots of friends that are good bakers, and Throggs Neck is a very generous community – it always has been. I have no doubt that the community will support the sale.”

Both Vega and Vetter wish to thank Mother Genevieve of the Little Sisters of the Poor at Jeanne Jugan Residence for allowing this bake sale to be a part of the bazaar.

“This bazaar has far and away the best and most reasonably priced Christmas items in the neighborhood,” both women stated. “We can think of no better way to spend a little money – getting Christmas items while enjoying a home-made goodie. Hope to see you all on November 14.”
