The Pelham Bay Merchants Association received a $20,000 grant recently, to recruit new businesses into the association.
At the check presentation ceremony and meeting on Thursday, October 29, Pelham Bay Merchants Association president Sherry Scanlon said that one of the goals of the association is to increase the organization’s ranks.
“We have many new business owners in Pelham Bay who may not be aware of all of the services the merchants association can offer them,” said Scanlon.
Senator Jeff Klein made the grant possible. At their monthly meeting held at the Shamrock Inn, Klein presented the check and said that the fate of commercial strips and residential blocks are linked.
“I am proud to support the Pelham Bay Merchants Association,” Klein said. “Small businesses create the foundation for a healthy, vibrant community, and especially in this economy, we need to give them as much financial support as possible. The Pelham Bay Merchants Association boosts the Pelham Bay shopping district, bringing more money and residents into the community. This, in turn, increases the property value of homes.”
