Spoto’s premiers new wine bar

Restaurant patrons in search of fine Italian cuisine and drink have a new reason to go to Spoto’s. The restaurant now boasts its very own wine bar.

Spoto’s Restaurant, located at 4005 E. Tremont Avenue, opened its wine bar about two weeks ago. The bar contains 25 different wines from around the world. The wines are all affordable and available by the glass or bottle, Spoto’s manager Gary Celli said.

“We wanted to put something in the restaurant that the neighborhood didn’t have,” Celli said. “You have other businesses [on E. Tremont Avenue] that have their own themes and [being] an Italian restaurant, we felt the wine bar was a natural marriage.”

The wine bar, which also offers liquor and other beverages, complements Spoto’s cuisine, Celli added. The bar will host live entertainment every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, he said. The wines hail from California, Australia and Europe and pair up well with classic Italian dishes. They include Peter Brum, Ruffino, and Zin91.

“We have never had anything even similar to the wine bar in this restaurant before,” Celli said. “The room where the wine bar is located had previously been a dinning room.”

Spoto’s also boasts a private catering room and will serve traditional fish dishes on Christmas Eve for a price-fixed a la carte menu. The restaurant will also host a New Year’s Eve celebration special for $85 per person. This includes a champagne toast, open bar, and sit-down dinner. Reservations for both events are required.

The Spoto family has operated the restaurant for 25 years. For more information on Spoto’s, call (718) 828-5613, or visit online at www.spotosnyc.com.
