Police Officer Turner named 49th Precinct Cop of the Month

The 49th Precinct acknowledged a long-time police officer for his years of service and dedication to improving his precinct and community on Tuesday, November 24.

Police Officer George Turner accepted a Cop of the Month Award, sponsored by Senator Jeff Klein, at the 49th Precinct Community Council’s November meeting.

Turner has been an active and vital member of the 49th Precinct for more than 20 years and took on the position of Auxiliary Police Unit coordinator in 2005.

Under his leadership and guidance, the unit has nearly doubled its participants. It currently boasts 52 auxiliary police officers, volunteers who assist the 49th Precinct in day-to-day operations such as traffic control and the prevention of underage drinking.

“Officer Turner is a really hardworking guy who gives the auxillary police positive reinforcement all the time,” 49th Precinct Captain John Greeley said.

Greeley also praised Turner’s volunteer corps.

“They volunteer their time to give back to the community,” he said. “They do a fantastic job for us and the community.”
