Sophomore leads by example

Stephanie Henry, a sophomore at Preston High School, leads by example and this is why she has been named a HOBY Ambassador. Henry has been selected by the Preston High School faculty to serve as the 2008-2009 Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Ambassador for exceptional leadership and service. Stephanie is involved in Aspira, a national association that promotes education and leadership development among Latino youth, and Big Sisters/Little Sisters. She was also selected as part of the student stakeholder group for the Middle States Accreditation as a freshman. She will attend a HOBY seminar in June.

HOBY is a youth leadership development organization that was founded in 1958. According to HOBY.org, “HOBY’s mission is to provide lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential.” The organization offers seminars throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students.

“Stephanie has natural leadership abilities. She never turns from a request for help and is always the first person to offer her hand to students and teachers alike,” said Joseph DeBona, Henry’s English teacher.
