A three-alarm fire gutted four Jackson Avenue townhouses on January 27, displacing at least three families.
The conflagration was first reported at 10:17 p.m. According to Fire Department spokesman John Vuoso, 170 firefighters fought to extinguish the blaze, which began at 1102 Jackson Avenue and spread to 1098, 1100 and 1104 Jackson Avenue.
Six firefighters and one civilian were green-tagged for minor injuries. One firefighter and one civilian were taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment.
American Red Cross workers distributed water and blankets, and placed three fire victims in hotel rooms.
FDNY declared the blaze under control around 11:30 p.m. Its cause remains under investigation.
Community Board 3’s John Dudley said the city has issued vacate orders for 1100, 1102 and 1104 Jackson Avenue, just off Boston Road. A shed could be installed at 1102 Jackson Avenue to catch bricks and cornices falling from the townhouse’s façade.
Days later, on January 30, 80 residents fled a three-alarm fire at 815 Gerard Avenue in the Yankee Stadium neighborhood. Five months ago, Red Cross workers helped 14 people after a two-alarm fire at 753 Jackson Avenue.
Last year, the Red Cross’ Bronx chapter responded to 508 fires and other emergencies, and provided 3,025 victims with food, shelter and/or counseling.
