A lotta dough for 99¢

With these tough economic times making many people a little short on their dough, one local pizzeria is offering 99 cent regular slices to make sure those on their lunch breaks from school or work can afford a hot, nutritious meal.

Louie’s Pizza Shop, a fixture at 3178 E. Tremont Avenue for the past 30 years, is offering a lunch special that brings the price of a regular slice down to 99 cents between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m on weekdays.

“You are seeing a lot of kids from the local high school having less money to eat – they are only walking around with two or three dollars,” said owner Michael Ditroia. “We are hearing stories of parents losing their jobs, and of older teenagers unable to find work.”

Ditroia said that a decrease in the price of ingredients has allowed him to offer the special. On the weekend –including Fridays – Louie’s Pizza also offers a large 18-inch pie, an order of garlic knots, and a two-liter bottle of soda for $9.99 – including free delivery. Call Louie’s Pizza Shop at (718) 931 – 4248.
