Effective Leadership honorees

The committee for Effective Leader-ship has announced its honorees for 2010. They are:

Demetrius Bagley, an event producer and an activist on vegan and animal wel-fare issues. He served as chair of the New York League of Humane Voters Gala 2009,

Lawrence Carter-Long, executive di-rector of the Disabilities Network of New York City, dedicated disability advo-cate/spokesperson and expert in commu-nications and media. Recipient of the 2009 Frieda Zames Advocacy Award and the American Association for People with Disabilities’ 2010 Paul G. Hearne Award.

Linda Poust Lopez, Legal Aid Society criminal defense attorney, has worked actively with the LGBT community on cases involving illegal arrests of gays and transgendered individuals, has fought for the rights of victims of Human Traffick-ing, is a member Chippewa Democratic Club and a community activist.

Lisa Winters, a lawyer and social worker and long-time activist in the Bronx is a founder of the Bronx Commu-nity Pride Center, the only LGBT organi-zation in the Bronx that provides critical direct services to over 6,000 clients annu-ally. She served as the agency’s Executive Director for five years. She has served on numerous non-profit boards including Community Planning Board 11, the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women and the NYC Anti-Violence Pro-ject.

The testimonial will also be celebrat-ing community activist and political leader Lewis Goldstein for his accom-plishments in many areas.

The testimonial luncheon and brunch will be held on April 11 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Villa Barone Restaurant. The res-taurant is located at 3289 Westchester Avenue. Kosher vegan kosher will be served. Tickets are $60 each.
