This very white winter has been a treat for garden lovers, who thrill to the transformations of each season, as well as for Mother Nature, who prefers to shrug a soft blanket of white over her shoulders, helping to insulate the renaissance happening beneath the soil.An oasis year-round, Wave Hill in the depths of winter offers serenity, even as our heartbeats begin to quicken at the thought of spring, so fast approaching.

Friday, March 5, Nature Photography Series–Essence Of Spring, Session 1: Capture the glory of Wave Hill’s emerging spring landscape through the lens of the camera. Explore creative and technical techniques through demonstrations, outdoor shooting assignments and critiques, with nature photographer Benjamin Swett. Friday, March 5, Members-Only Exhibition Tour: Wave Hill invites members to enjoy a private tour of Joel Meyerowitz’ exhibition Legacy: the Preservation of Wilderness in New York City Parks, with Sean Corcoran, Curator of Prints and Photographs at the Museum of the City of New York. Registration required at www.wavehill.org. The tour will accommodate only a small group, so register early for this special Member opportunity. Saturday, March 6; Sunday, March 7: Family Art Project- Creature Comforts Of Home: Creature Comforts of Home/Hogar, dulce hogar: See what Wave Hill’s birds and animals do for housing. Then, with help from artist Alice Momm, fashion a tiny clay critter and a cozy home for it using natural materials. Free with admission to the grounds. The Sally And Gilbert Kerlin Learning Center, 1 to 4 p.m.

Sunday, March 7, Sunday Brunch: Sunday Brunch is offered by Wave Hill’s exclusive caterer Great Performances. Reservations at (718) 549-3200, ext. 395 or by emailing wavehillcafe@greatperformances.com. $22 per person (not including admission to the grounds). Note special children’s pricing in 2010, as Wave Hill celebrates Growing Up in the Garden: Children under 3 free, 3- to 8-year-olds $6.50 and 8- to 12-year-olds $13.
