The search continues for a Throggs Neck man who has been missing for over one month. Despite some false hope, police have not found the elderly landlord.
Vincent Durso, 75, a Hollywood Avenue resident for 40 years and an elder at the Fort Schuyler Presbyterian Church, disappeared on Tuesday, April 20 after dropping off his wife’s home health care attendant near Boston Road and East 165th Street at 8:30 p.m. Durso’s car, a black 1997 Honda Accord, was found in a Crotona Park parking lot on Thursday, April 24. The car was not damaged.
A $5,000 reward has been issued. The sighting of a man fitting Durso’s description on Wednesday, May 5 at 1075 Pugsley Avenue in front of P.S. 119 turned out to be another man, his wife Alice Durso said.
“That was a man who looked like him,” Durso said. “I don’t know what to think anymore. Something has got to show up. When that will happen, I don’t know.” She does not know whether foul play is involved. Police said that there have been no new developments in the case since finding the car.
“He has not been found,” a police source said. The investigation is ongoing. Flyers have been posted all over the East Tremont Avenue shopping district in Throggs Neck and Waterbury-LaSalle, and his family has reached out to the English and Spanish language media to aid in the search.
Durso was headed to collect rent at buildings he owns near Third Avenue after dropping off his wife’s home attendant. His wife described him as a loving, caring family man who once worked as an insurance salesman for Geico and New York Life. The couple has lived on Hollywood Avenue since 1968. They have two grandchildren. He is also a member of the American Turner Club and the New York Tennis Club.
Vincent is 5’11” and weighs 160 pounds. He has a light complexion and is balding. He was last seen wearing a navy blue jacket, brown pants, and a tan shirt. He often wears a tennis cap.
