Mosholu Montefiore schedules signup dates for baseball

With the renovation and return of its Schandler Park fields, the Mosholu Montefiore Little League is expecting a more successful baseball season this spring.

After the disaster of last year’s baseball season where Mosholu Montefiore literally had no fields and was even forced to play in Marble Hill, Chris Pinto, Sports Director and Commissioner, is looking forward to an exciting season with beautiful new fields at Schandler Park, plus additional playing fields nearby at Indian Field in Woodlawn. The league still does not know when it will return to Harris Park because of all of the delays, but can accommodate all of its players at Schandler and Indian Fields.

Mosholu’s league consists of Pee Wees ages 5 to 6 years old who use a batting T; Bantams, ages 7 to 8 years, old who will use the coaches pitch; Minors, ages 9 to 10 years old, where the children pitch; Majors, ages 11 to 12 years old and Seniors ,ages 13, 14, and 15 years old. There is also girl’s softball for ages 9 to 15.

For the younger divisions the League uses softer balls and for minors and up a safety core hard ball is used. All players receive a uniform consisting of shirts, pants, and cap. All players receive a trophy for playing during the season; winning teams receive division trophies. Everyone sells candy to cover the cost of trophies.

To register, stop by the Center Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate. We go by the age your child will be on June 1, for division placement. Call Chris Pinto at (718) 882-4000, ext. 280 for complete information and to volunteer as a coach.
