Bon Secour Anniversary Dinner

Bon Secours New York Health System will commemorate the 72nd anniversary of Schervier Nursing Care Center with its “Bon Secours in Bloom” Benefit Gala on March 25, at the New York Botanical Garden on the Bronx River Parkway at Fordham Road. The honorees are Peabody Award-winning broadcast journalist Gabe Pressman and Bon Secours New York Health System Board member Christina Alexander.

Recognized in the New York broad-cast journalism community as the “re-porter’s reporter,” Gabe Pressman has been with NBC4 for 47 years. During more than 55 years in the field, Pressman has compiled a peerless record of inves-tigative reporting in politics and social issues. He has received numerous awards, some of which have been for documentaries on hunger and the men-tally ill homeless. He is considered one of the pioneers of United States televi-sion news and has won many awards for his work which include 10 Emmy Awards, an Edward R. Murrow Award and a Peabody Award. He is the first journalist to be inaugurated into the New York Press Club Hall of Fame.

Having invented the craft of street re-porting, Pressman is recognized by the viewing audience, political and commu-nity leaders and his colleagues as one of New York’s most respected journalists. He is a consummate New Yorker and a proud son of the Bronx. In 1948 and 1949 he traveled through Europe on a Pulitzer Scholarship. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from New York University and received a master’s degree from the Co-lumbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Honoree Christina Alexander has served on the Board of Bon Secours New York Health System for nine years. Ms. Alexander received her B.S. in Pharmacy from Fordham University and her M.S. in Pharmacology from St. John’s Univer-sity.She is a pharmacist at Alexander Associates Health Consultants. Her vol-unteer activities include serving on the board of St. Gabriel’s Church, and she is an active member of the Fordham Uni-versity Alumni Association.

The Chair of the “Bon Secours in Bloom” Benefit Gala is Maria Khury, a member of the Bon Secours New York Health System Board of Directors.

A dinner with the newly crowned Miss USA 2010 will be auctioned off at event.
