Mobile billboard hits the borough

Jeff Scheck makes his living behind the wheel of an Isuzu truck and ads are his only cargo.

Scheck is the cutting edge of Bronx marketing. Trucks equipped with digital ad boards have plied Manhattan for years. But Scheck’s truck is different. It motors a scrolling billboard to busy corners around the borough. GoMobile, a national company, has backed Scheck’s venture. He recently promoted the New Bronx Chamber of Commerce. Scheck’s truck is wired for sound.

“One thing to think about is the amount of exposure you can get having an advertisement on a mobile piece of equipment, like a truck,” Chamber CEO Lenny Caro said. “We advertised on the truck just before the holidays. It drove through the Fordham Road and Pelham Parkway shopping districts playing holiday music. We received many positive phone calls and many Chamber members plan to use Sheck’s service.”

In addition to his truck-mounted billboard ads, Scheck offers truck-mounted, custom-designed, three-dimensional displays. He fits the displays into an area six feet tall, six feet wide and 12 feet long.

Scheck could tow a model studio apartment to promote a furniture store, or a beach scene to promote beer, or a model doctor’s office to promote a clinic, he explained.

Aside from the Chamber, Scheck has already designed displays for Webster Laundry and Kenneth Cole. He targets thoroughfares and corners where foot traffic is dense.

“The good thing about these ads is that I’m on wheels,” Scheck said. “. I catch people when they exit subway stations and stand at busy intersections. I love the Bronx. People are always stopping me and asking for my business cards.”

While he has only been in business for a few months, he said that he is already meeting with many potential advertisers.
