Morris Park Dental helps clergy help Haiti

A neighborhood dental office has gone the extra mile to help victims of Haiti’s tragic January 12 earthquake.

Morris Park Dental Associates has chosen to celebrate Dental Health Month in February by way of a fundraiser in partnership with the Latin/African American Chaplains Association. For each new patient through the door, Morris Park Dental owner Dr. William Wolfson will donate $25 to Haiti.

Additionally, Morris Park Dental, at 960 Morris Park Avenue between Bogart and Radcliff avenues, plans to use a vacant storefront next door as a donation point for generous people around the borough. Wolfson hopes to gather donated toiletries, painkillers, first-aid equipment and clothes. The Latin/African American Chaplains Association, which counts as members more than 40 clergy nationwide, will distribute the donated items.

“It is Dental Health Month and we wanted to do something for the people of Haiti,” Morris Park Dental spokeswoman Wendy Rockford said.

In particular, Wolfson hopes has encouraged his neighbors to donate Aspirin, Tylenol, bandages, soap, toilet paper, feminine napkins, disposable diapers, disposable razors, toys and books, infant formula, baby wipes, canned goods, utensils, hand sanitizer, pots and pans, clothes and shoes.

Morris Park Dental partnered with the Latin/African American Chaplains Association through west Bronx clergyman and Councilman Fernando Cabrera.

“After the earthquake hit, we donated over $1 million in medical supplies through a combined effort with Cabrera,” Bishop Fernando Rodriquez of the Latin/African American Chaplains Association said. “This will be an ongoing effort. We would like to thank Morris Park Dental for partnering with us.”

Morris Park Dental will hold a special ceremony on Monday, March 8, when the donated items are sent to Haiti.

“We hope to have the entire storefront filled with items for Haiti,” Rockford said.
