Fourth Consecutive Waterbury-LaSalle Tree Giveaway

The Bronx is slowly becoming a greener borough, and local associations are doing whatever they can to help the cause.

Although restoration projects in Pelham Bay Park have just started, the Waterbury-LaSalle Community Association and First Lutheran Church of Throggs Neck have partnered up with the Department of Parks and Recreation and the New York Restoration Project for the fourth time in just over a year to distribut trees.

The giveaway, which will take place at the church on 3075 Baisley Avenue on Saturday, April 30, will be doling outapproximately 230 fruiting and flowering trees to anyone who can show proof of residency in any of the five boroughs.

The event will take place between noon and 2 p.m. in the yard of the Lutheran Church. The WSCA has been sending out flyers and newsletters to notify local residents. Originally, residents were allowed to take two trees for themselves, but as the number of people seeking trees grew larger, only one tree per household is currently allowed.

The trees will be given away on a first come first serve basis and according to Musano. The trees go very quickly and anyone interested is urged to come as early as possible.
