2011 Winter Swimming Programs for Kids and Adults at Maritime College

Winter is a great time to learn to swim, brush up on your swimming skills, or just enjoy a dip in the pool!

SUNY Maritime College’s Community Programs Office offers reasonably priced group and private swimming lessons for adults and children at all levels during the winter. Swim classes are held in SUNY Maritime College’s Riesenberg Gymnasium’s Olympic-sized pool on the Throggs Neck campus.All classes are taught by Certified Water Safety Instructors. Registration deadline for winter swimming sessions is Wednesday, January 12. Maritime offers a wide ray of different swim programs for children.

Children’s Saturday swimming lessons begin on January 22 and continue through March 12. They are one-half hour long and begin at 9:30 a.m.The last class ends at 2:30 pm.Classes are progressive and based on age and ability beginning with a “Guppy Class” for children 12 months to 3 years, with time in the water with instructor and a parent, and additional classes for children age 3 to 13.Fees for children’s group swimming lessons are $120 per child for an eight-week session.

The Swim Team Prep Session is an eight-week class for children ages 7 to 15 who are advanced swimmers and want to swim competitively. It takes place onFridays from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm from January 21 to March 11, for a $140 fee.

Eight-weeks of private Saturday morning swim lessons, with one-on-one instruction, for children of all ages, begin on Saturday, January 22. The fee is $400. Semi-private swim lessons for two children of similar ages and skill levels are available for $500. For adults, there is a 45-minite, ten-session, Tuesday Night Open Lap Swim from 7:30 pm to 8:15 pm for adults of all levels beginning on January 18. The fee is $100.

The Adult Water Workout, is a Friday evening, eight week, co-ed session from 6 to 7 pm, for intermediate swimmers and better a way to tone-up. Class begins January 21 and ends March 11, for a $140 fee.

Maritime’s 10-Week Water Aerobics Class begins on Tuesday, January 18.The class meets in the pool from 8:15 pm to 9:00 pm. The fee is $100.
