Poggi To Be Remembered With BBQ

The first-ever Annual Catherine Poggi Memorial Barbeque/Reunion will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, July 23 at Dorothea Poggi’s home on Brush Avenue.

Poggi, who was 86 when she passed away in March, lived on Brush Avenue for nearly 60 years. Her passion was environmental issues in the northeast Bronx. In 1963 she worked to have a former garbage dump turned into a park and in the 1970s, she successfully campaigned against a city proposal to use Brush Avenue as a location for a police storage yard for derelict cars.

“I’m trying to keep the history of this neighborhood alive,” Dorothea said.
