Tickets On Sale For Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship Banquet

The Bronx Chamber of Commerce is in the final planning stages for one of the borough’s biggest annual events.

Tickets are on sale for the Chamber’s ninth annual Scholarship Banquet, which will be held on Thursday, October 6 at Marina del Rey. The dinner is the chamber’s main fundraising event of the year, with some proceeds supporting college scholarships for 10 Bronx high school students, worth over $1,000 each.

Tickets to the event, which includes a cocktail reception and dinner, are $175. There will also be a silent auction. Last year’s banquet drew over 800 people.

The evening’s program will include addresses by legendary Bronxite Regis Philbin and reality TV star “The Cake Boss” AKA Buddy Valastro, who runs Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, N.J.

There will also be four honorees at the banquet. Yankees owner Hank Steinbrenner will receive the Humanitarian Award for his work with the youth baseball team Hank’s Yanks. Boricua College, an institute of higher learning with campuses across the city, will be recognized with the Visionary Award. Kingston Block & Masonry Supply, a sustainable building company with offices in Riverdale, will receive the Environmental Awareness Award. And regional sporting goods retailer Modell’s, which first opened in Manhattan in 1889, will be honored with the Business Longevity Award.

Chamber president Lenny Caro is eagerly anticipating the event.

“It’s one of the great things that the Bronx Chamber does,” he said. “We’re not only a business organization, but a community organization.”

The scholarships will be awarded at the Chamber’s Women of Distinction luncheon in March.
