Fancy Feet Opens New Studio

One of the Bronx’s oldest dance schools has opened a new location.

For over 31 years, Fancy Feet Dance Studio has been a fixture of the Pelham Bay community on 1628 Crosby Avenue, serving hundreds of local young girls and boys. After much success, owner Susan Mendogni opened another location on 1295 Allerton Avenue 17 years ago.

For some time, Mendogni has considered expansion. As a result of serving many families from the Parkchester and Castle Hill areas, she selected a new location at 1306 Unionport Road.

On Saturday, October 8, the Fancy Feet Dance Studio officially opened their doors to existing and new students. Mendogni said the desire to open a third dance school in the area quickly became a reality at the end of the summer and was happy that the new studio came into fruition very quickly.

“A lot of these students live within two or three blocks of the new studio, so it’s very convenient for them to come here rather then our other two locations,” Mendogni said. “By now, our name is kind of like a household name and we feel that we are well known throughout the Bronx. Since we have opened, we have received a lot of praise for adding another location.”

Mendogni admits that the timing and availability of space was never appropriate until now, but since opening the new studio, enrollment for dance classes has strongly increased.

At the new studio, Mendogni and the Fancy Feet team will continue their award winning dance programs.

The studio will offer classes in creative movement, ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, “mommy & me,” gymnastics, and boys-only hip-hop.

Now with three borough locations, Mendogni continues her promise to parents and students that all children will continue to get the best dance education around.

“Parents are the reason why Fancy Feet thrives. They love their kids and Fancy Feet, and we love them right back,” Mendogni said. “For over 30 years, we have kept our concentration on making sure kids receive excellent education in dance. It has always been my goal to make sure I build strong relationships with all of my students and their parents.”

Mendogni said that because of the increase in enrollment and the success that the new studio already has achieved, it is not out of the question that a fourth studio might be considered in the future.

New students, ages 18 months and up, can register at the Unionport studio Wednesday through Friday from 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
