Even before the ribbon cutting takes place for an enhanced Macombs Dam Park with three new ball fields in the footprint of the old Yankee Stadium, Parks will draw up a maintenance plan.
Contrary to local concerns, Bronx Parks Commissioner Hector Aponte said that the park, and all of those in the Yankee Stadium reconstruction plan, will be maintained to the highest standards possible.
“The parks constructed under the Yankee Stadium program are some of the jewels of the Bronx parks system, and we are committed to maintaining them to the highest standards through daily cleaning and preventative maintenance,” Aponte said. “Our new district headquarters is based in nearby Mill Pond Park, allowing speedy response to any maintenance needs, and two Parks enforcement officers are stationed at Macombs Dam to enforce quality-of-life rules.”
Parks has also purchased additional equipment to aid in the maintenance of Macombs Dam and other nearby parks, including leaf blowers, grass mowers and a tractor, a Parks Department source said.
In addition, the Parks Department is always looking for volunteers who would like to pitch in and help maintain the parks, especially in these lean budgetary times, Aponte stated.
