LaSalle woman knifes 45th cop

An apparently suicidal LaSalle Avenue woman is now charged with assault after she allegedly threw a knife and struck the hand of a police officer responding to a call at her apartment.

Joanne Clarke, 43, who lives at 3072 LaSalle Avenue, has been charged with felony assault, menacing of a police officer, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to a complaint report

Police responded to a call on Friday, March 23 at approximately 9:48 a.m. and allegedly found Clarke stabbing herself in the stomach with two knives, a complaint report said.

As they attempted to intervene, one knife was thrown at one of the responding officers. It hit his right pinky finger, the police source said.

Clarke who did not heed warnings to put the knife down, lunged at the officers with a 10-inch butcher knife, forcing the officers to shoot her in the leg, the police source said.
