The chief executive officer of PepsiCo Americas Beverages will be sending more than 2,600 Class of 2012 Lehman College graduates out into the world as this year’s commencement speaker.

Albert Carey will address the graduate and undergraduate students during the college’s 44th commencement exercises to be held on Thursday, May 31 on the South Field of the Bronx campus, school officials announced last week.

Carey will also receive an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree.

Also receiving honorary degrees wil be Shirley Rodriguez Remeneski, chairperson of the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center’s board of trustees, and Karen Musalo, professor of law at the University of California’s Hasting’s College of Law.

Carey, a graduate of the University of Maryland, began his career with PepsiCo in 1981 and has served in a variety of roles, including chief operating officer of PepsiCo Beverages & Foods North America, president of PepsiCo Sales, and president and CEO of Frito-Lay North America.

He was named to his current position last September, responsible for all aspects of PepsiCo’s beverage business in America.

At Lehman, which several of his family members attended, he has been instrumental in building both scholarship funds and internship opportunities for its students.

In 2008, he received the Lehman Leadership Award at the college’s annual awards gala.

Speaking for the Class of 2012 will be Oluwole Onemola, a political science major and current president of student government.
