This apartment can mean a new life for someone.
The newly built Activities of Daily Living Apartment at the Workmen’s Circle MultiCare Center has opened its doors to be used by patients who have suffered physical or mental disabilities.
After a person has suffered a stroke or physical disability,readjusting back into normal life and an every day schedule can sometimes be a struggle staff members at the facility said.
The improvements will allow WCMCC to better prepare residents for a safe return to the community and their everyday lives.
The apartment which contains, a bed, kitchenette, and a bathroom with a bath tub, will allow staff to work with patients in order to help them get used to accomplishing day-to-day tasks on their own such as getting in and out of bed, bathing themselves, and cooking for themselves.
The new apartment is part of Workmen’s Circle MultiCare Center, a nonprofit facility in the Bronx providing care to over 500 patients in either long-term, short-term or rehabilitation settings. The grand opening was celebrated on Thursday, May 17.
Guests were treated to music, dinner, massages, magicians and miniature golf.
The renovated area, which took five months to complete, includes an Activities of Daily Living Apartment, resident and family lounge, and a roof top patio.
Funds for the renovation were raised through fundraisers and private fundng, a spokesperson for the facility said, but an exact cost is not being released.
After a brief open house, a ribbon cutting was held to celebrate the re-opening of the new facility.
The Medicaid/Medicare rated five-star facility continues its renovations with the creation of its Dialysis Center, which is expected to be complete in September.
