Racing to beat those traffic lights along Morris Park Avenue will soon be even more harder.
The main drag is soon to see its tenth – and for now – final traffic light installed.
The city Department of Transportation recently approved installation of one at the intersection of Fowler Avenue, with work to be done early this summer.
The new light comes after an extensive study of traffic flow along Morris Park Avenue, with traffic lights currently installed between Williamsbridge Road and Bronxdale Avenue.
A spokesman for local Councilman Jimmy Vacca said the previous nine lights were installed over a period of several years, based on need.
Vacca’s office requested a study be done by the DOT sometime in October and the tenth and final light was officially approved by DOT on March 20.
The new stop light is tentatively scheduled to be installed by Tuesday, July 31, said Vacca.
“For many years Fowler Avenue on Morris Park Avenue served as the only intersection on the commercial strip without a traffic signal,” Vacca said. “With better traffic controls on Fowler Avenue, we can insure better safety for our drivers and pedestrians in the Morris Park community.”
Al D’Angelo, president of the Morris Park Community Association, commended the councilman for working to get a traffic light in the very busy intersection.
“A new traffic signal at Fowler Avenue was certainly something that the community was looking forward to having for some time,” D’ Angelo said.
