Happy Newborn!
Baby girl Emerald Adrianne Jordyn Givans arrived at 2:02 a.m. on New Year’s Day making her the first baby born in the Bronx in 2013.
The tiny four pound, 12.9 ounce baby was born to mom, Andrea White, and dad, Vincent Givans at Montefiore Medical Center.
Emerald beat the New Year’s clock ahead of Joel Javier Sanchez, born at Lincoln Hospital at 3:17 a.m. and weighing in at five pounds, seven ounces.
Just to cover another local hospital, Isabella Cappello came into the world well into New Year’s Day, born at 4:02 p.m. at Jacobi Medical Center and weighing in at six pounds, three ounces.
Although White, 46, said baby Givans was not due until February 14, she was pleased about her early arrival.
“For me, it doesn’t matter if it was New Years or any other day. I’m elated,” White said. “But I am glad she came on New Years. It is a fantastic way to start the New Year.”
White said she actually expected the baby to be born around Christmas, because that is when she started to feel contractions.
“But she never came,” White said. “She waited until New Years.”
White, a home health aide, said she began having severe labor pains at 10:30 p.m. on Monday.
Dad Vincent said although there have been some conflicting reports, he is ecstatic and would like to set the record straight, that Emerald was the first baby born in the Bronx in 2013.
“When she grows up I want to say Emerald, girl, you came into this world like a celebrity,” he said. “You were the first baby born in the Bronx for 2013.”
Emerald is White’s fourth child. She also has two 18-year-old daughters and a 10-year-old son.
“I am proud to have a New Year’s baby,” White said.
The overall city princess for arriving New Year’s was Kaylee Sayuri Merino, who arrived in the world – and New York City exactly at midnight on New Year’s Day at Elmhurst General Hospital in Queens, weighing a healthy six pounds, 11 ounces.
