Businesses bring variety to Crosby Ave

Four new Pelham Bay businesses are bringing new life and new products to the Crosby Avenue shopping district.

With locations along a two-block strip of the avenue between Middletown Road and Westchester Avenue, business owners at Smart Securities, Crosby Fashion, Izzy’s Wireless and 15 Flavors are all hoping to bring something different to the neighborhood, an area with multiple bakeries, nail and hair salons and pizza places.

Smart Security

Owners of Smart Security Kristin and Keith Deleno said their full service locksmith at 1631 Crosby Avenue has been a store that people in the neighborhood have been waiting for.

“We opened in the middle of March,” said Kristin Daleno. “A lot of people have come in and said ‘Finally, you are open!’ A lot of people that come in are relieved and happy because they can’t get around and they don’t want to take a bus to Home Depot.”

Smart Security is a 24-hour emergency locksmith, selling security systems, locks, keys, and safes.

Daleno said Crosby Avenue was the perfect location, because of its proximity to the subway and all of the foot traffic the area sees.

“Business has been great,” she said. “It’s nice a lot of them were waiting for something like this. It’s very convenient we’ve been told.”

After the closing of another locksmith about a block from Smart Security, the area was lacking a security service business.

“We picked a perfect spot,” said. “We have a good niche.”

15 Flavors

This is the second location for the frozen yogurt and smoothie store, which offers 15 flavors of self -serve yogurt, over 40 different toppings and a variety of juices and smoothies.

Victor Ortiz, manager of the store at 1763 Crosby Avenue, said since the store’s opening on May 31, he has done a lot of business.

“Business has been good,” he said. “This product is just right for Crosby Avenue. I love the area, the crowd is nice, they appreciate our business.”

Ortiz said the store will hold a grand opening with music, face painting and samples in the next two weeks.

Crosby Fashion & Izzy’s Wireless

Two other new businesses are bringing something fresh to the neighborhood.

Izzy’s wireless, at 3000 Westchester Avenue, is a one-stop shop for all things wireless and cellular.

The store will have to compete with two other wireless carriers in the area, but the family owned business will provide customers with a much more personal experience.

Crosby Fashion at 3000 Middletown Road is the new local go-to store for women’s fashion. The store, which held its grand opening on Sunday, June 16, sells everything from women’s jewelry and hand bags to clothing.

Owner, Jenny Chen, used to own a Chinese restaurant in the area but said she is “very excited to about her new business.”
