Throggs Neck senior killed in E. Tremont crash

BREAKING: A Throggs Neck senior citizen was killed after being struck by three vehicles this morning at E. Tremont and Puritan Avenues, police said.

Angel Figueroa, 74, was crossing E. Tremont headed north at 8 a.m. when he was hit first by a red Dodge SUV traveling west, then struck by two cars headed east before landing in the street, authorities said.

Figueroa was pronounced dead from severe body trauma when medics arrived a few minutes later, police said.

The driver of the final vehicle to hit Figueroa, a black Nissan Altima car service traveling east on E. Tremont, said that the man’s body fell directly in front of his car’s left wing.

“I ran over him and pulled over to the right,” said the man, who declined to give his name.

Police said the driver of both the red Dodge Durango and the black Nissan Altima stuck around to cooperate with the investigation.

But police are still searching for a woman driving in front of the black Altima, who hit Figueroa and then sped from the scene.

The car service driver said he tried to stop the woman from leaving, but that she cussed at him and drove off.

“She said she didn’t hit him and then she left,” the man said.

Eyewitnesses described a grisly scene.

“His face was down to the floor, and I saw a lot of blood to his neck and head,” said Ronald Giambastiani, who drove by a few minutes after the collision. “There was a nurse leaning over his body, looking for a pulse, and I asked her ‘do you need any help? Can I help give CPR?’ But she just looked at me and said ‘he’s gone.”

Figueroa lived at Logan and Dewey Avenues. His family has been alerted of his death, police said.
