Tony’s Pier returns a year after Sandy

With the heart of the storm raging , Tony’s Pier, a popular restaurant at the tip of City Island, was gutted by fire Oct. 29, 2012.

One year to the day, Senator Jeff Klein, Assemblyman Michael Benedetto, and Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. joined with co-owner Anthony Palumbo to dedicate the newly reconstructed eatery at 1 City Island Ave. at Belden Point.

“As flames consumed the restaurant, decades of hard work and history were at stake,” said Klein, whose office worked with owners and planners to help rebuild it.

“Today isn’t only a time to reflect on the hardships Sandy caused,” he said at the rededication. “It is also a day to celebrate the hard work and resilience of our community.”
