One has dreams of becoming a female firefighter, another a mechanic, and a third a successful chef with his own restaurant.

All three of these students from the Bronx were not only named winners of the 2014 Police Athletic League Art Contest, but their winning artwork has been featured on PAL’s 2014 calendar.

The contest was themed “Career Exploration,” and Police Athletic League students from all five boroughs were asked to illustrate their aspirations and career goals.

The three Bronx winners all came up with what contest judges deemed both unique dreams and striking art work by each entrant.

Sixth grader Johnnel Guzman from PAL’s Webster-Giannone Center drew a picture of an auto shop, and said he wants to be a mechanic to help those in need.

Douglas Locas, a 5th grader who attends the Sotomayor Community Center drew “Locas Cafe” because he wants to be a chef and own his own restaurant.

Third grader Valarie Ramroop drew a picture of herself putting out a house fire, and said she wants to be a firefighter when she grows up.

Their artwork were the illustrations for the months March, November, and August in the 2014 calendar.

Founded in 1914, PAL is the city’s largest, independent, nonprofit youth organization.

PAL provides recreational, educational, cultural and social activities to about 40,000 boys and girls annually.
