The Third-annual Dancing of the Giglio took place in the Bronx’s Little Italy on Saturday, June 14 as part of the Feast of St. Anthony Celebration. The giglio, which people say “dances” because of the movement it has while being carried down the street, is a 1,500-year-old tradition originating in Nola, Italy.

The giglio was carried down 187th Street in front of Our Lady of Mount Carmel as part of the annual Feast of St. Anthony Celebration in Belmont on June 14.

Nick Detore, 15, put in maximum effort as a lifter of the giglio, which is traditionally considered a high honor.
