Community Board 10 vice-chairman John Marano accepted an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, a fun fund-raiser that encourages donations and raises awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, from 45th Precinct commanding officer Captain James McGeown and many of the precinct’s officers on Wednesday, August 20. The challenge is to either make a donation for research on ALS, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” or get a bucket of ice-water dumped on your head. The dumpee usually makes a donation anyway because it is all in good fun. A soaking wet Marano then posed for a photo with the officers outside the 45th Precinct. The challenge has gone “viral” on social media web sites in past several months.
