The Throgs Neck Little League needed help and an electrical contractor stepped right up to the plate.

Bronx-based Hellman Electric, along with members of the Bronx Acorn Electrical Club and Local 3, repaired the TNLL night lights on the senior field at 150 Throgs Neck Boulevard on Saturday, October 18 – for free.

Generously donating their time and effort, Hellman Electric ended up saving the league upwards of $5,000 to $6,000 by providing a bucket-lift truck, along with operators and electricians to repair the lights and generators free of charge.

To show their appreciation, the TNLL provided breakfast and coffee for the volunteers.

“When Hurricane Sandy hit, many lights were damaged and poles were knocked down, but Hellman Electric stepped right up to help us fix and repair them,” said Frank Eisele, president of Throgs Neck Little League.

“Over two years later, Hellman is helping us yet again and doing something good for the community, which is not a surprise.”

Frank Sergi, general superintendant of Hellman Electric, said that it was a ‘no brainer’ when it came to lending a helping hand to the league.

“The answer is always “yes” when it comes to helping and giving back to the community,” said Sergi.

“It’s always important to look out for the community which may require assistance – something that Steve Lazzaro (Hellman Electric’s president) has passed on to his co-workers and employees.”

Lazzaro was born and raised in the Bronx. According to Sergi, Lazzaro’s priority is to give back to the borough in which he has lived his entire life.

“Steve is all about giving back to the community – especially when it comes to the communities and neighborhoods of the Bronx that he knows and cares for.”

While the senior field lights were repaired, the lights of the junior field could not be repaired yet due to not having the proper equipment on site.

However, Eisele is more than happy that one field’s lights are back on and running, and has said that the lights of the junior field will be repaired in early April.

“I’m very appreciative for the job that Hellman Electric, the Bronx Acorn Electrical Club and Local 3 has done for us,” said Eisele.

“This is a big deal, especially considering the fact that we are a non-profit organization.”
