Autumn Rowe, a lifelong Bronx resident and highly accomplished singer-songwriter has entered the spotlight as a breakout dance music artist on a mission.
Born and raised in the south Bronx, Rowe grew up on Prospect Avenue in Mott Haven. She was raised by her mother and given their economic circumstances did not have very much.
Rowe’s prized possession was her mother’s music collection which she would listen to daily. A few years later, Rowe and her mother moved to the Patterson Houses where deejays performed daily outside the buildings.
“There was always music around me,” Rowe expressed.
She attended school at P.S. 198, P.S. 31, and J.H.S. 149 and was enrolled in the gifted and talented program.
At age 16, Rowe interned at Island Records and met different artists during her brief time there. A year later, she decided managing a label was not as exciting as performing and pursued the more creative aspect of music.
Now a respected songwriter signed to Sony ATV, Rowe’s debut EP is set for a late summer release on Ultra Records. The official title for her EP has yet to be decided.
The EP’s first single ‘If I Don’t Have You’ was released on Friday, January 16 and is available on iTunes. Three remixes of her debut single can be heard and purchased on Beatport.
The official music video for this single premiered on Wednesday, February 4 and can be viewed on YouTube.
‘If I Don’t Have You’ made its radio debut on Tuesday, March 3 on Sirius XM Electro.
The next single, ‘Compromising Situations’ is set for a Tuesday, April 14 release date. A third single is planned, but has not yet been selected.
At the 2012 Grammy Awards, the Afrojack remix of Leona Lewis’ ‘Collide’ was nominated for Best Remixed Recording. Rowe worked with Lewis on the track.
In addition to being a Grammy-nominated songwriter, Rowe is also a respected vocal coach responsible for molding such artists as Fifth Harmony while serving as a mentor on ‘The X Factor’ and ‘America’s Got Talent’.
Her songwriting career began with Alexis Jordan’s single ‘Happiness’, produced by Deadmau5, which was declared the official song of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Riding the wave of this success, Rowe’s career skyrocketed with several chart topping tracks appearing at #1 on the Billboard charts in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
Her work has been featured in such Hollywood movies as ‘Abduction’ starring Taylor Lautner, ‘Identity Thief’ starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, and ‘22 Jump Street’ starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum for which she penned the film’s theme song with Angel Haze and Ludacris. Recently, she co-wrote ‘I Own It’ by Nacey featuring Angel Haze for the original motion picture soundtrack for ‘The Duff’.
Rowe seeks to bring back the once popular New York City House sound from the 1990s through her work and said she writes at least five days a week.
Though she cites Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, and TLC among many of her inspirations, she best describes her tastes as being ‘super diverse’. Rowe is a fan of alternative rock music and British rock music, the latter she was introduced to while performing in the New York City Housing Authority Choir for the British Rock Symphony.
“We were singing Beatles songs with Ringo Starr leading the show. It was absolutely incredible,” she divulged.
Rowe currently resides in Riverdale and dreams of one day performing in her borough citing Lehman College as a possible venue.
