A longtime Bronx artist is teaming up with an art space and the borough’s youth for an exciting exhibition.

Bronx artist Joseph Moscato and the Focal Point Gallery are currently hosting the Young Bronx Artists Exhibition, a brand new art show including the work of youngsters from Bronx public schools.

Through Sunday, April 26, Bronxites can view the drawings, painting, photography, collages, sculptures and more from the borough’s artists of tomorrow at the gallery at 321 City Island Avenue.

The event’s reception took place on Saturday, April 11, kicking off the exhibition sponsored by Idea Factory NYC Inc., 122 E. 42nd Street, a Manhattan-based organization founded by Moscato.

The 72-year old Moscato, a lifelong Bronxite and Pelham Parkway resident who previously worked in the US Postal Service as a letter carrier and union rep for 20 years before retiring in 2004, has set up art shows at galleries throughout the Bronx and Manhattan for the last ten years.

He will be hosting the event for the third year in a row, once again giving a spotlight to the younger generation of artistic creativity that they wouldn’t have had before.

“With drastic cuts in funding for the arts in public schools, talented artists have no place to showcase their work,” said Moscato, who waited over 50 years to pursue his dream of being a full-time artist. “This is an opportunity to have their work be seen in a gallery setting.”

His journey to becoming an artist began when he started learning from his father, who was a photographer, at an early age.

Now a father himself, Moscato is giving young artists from the Bronx an opportunity that he had to work so hard for, while continuing to help those in his borough.

“This art exhibition is just one way to nurture the talent of these young artists,” said Moscato. “It’s simply my way of giving back to the community.”
