On Tuesday, April 14, Assemblyman Michael Benedetto presented a resolution to Christopher DeJesus’ family proclaiming May 14, 2015 as ‘Childhood Apraxia of Speech Day’ in New York state. Assemblyman Benedetto introduced the resolution at the request of Michael and Addy DeJesus, Christopher’s parents to bring awareness to Apraxia, a speech disorder which causes children to have extreme difficulty learning to speak and is among the most severe speech and communication problems in children. The assemblyman, a former special education teacher, praised young Christopher for his determination in working hard to overcome his disability and congratulated his parents for their efforts to bring awareness of the disorder to the mainstream.
