Three of New York’s finest received awards last week.

On Thursday, September 5, the 45th Precinct Community Council held a meeting at Hawkins Post, 550 City Island Avenue, where three 45th Precinct police officers were were recognized with Officer of the Month awards.

Traffic officer Kyle Cummings was honored as officer for the month of June for being extremely proactive in addressing the precinct’s quality of life conditions.

Police officer Michael McGreevy was named Officer of the Month for July. McGreevy responded to a call of robbery in progress, to which the perpetrators were apprehended.

McGreevy also closed out robbery patterns pertaining to three other robberies in the borough.

Police officer Hector Basora took the month of August honors, for quickly responding to a call of a burglary in progress. As a result, two perpetrators were arrested.

The meeting was led by council president Bob Beider.

Also in attendance was Captain Thomas Fraser, 45th Precinct commanding officer, Councilman Mark Gjonaj, as well as representatives from senators Alessandra Biaggi’s and Jamaal Bailey’s office.

The meeting also featured a backpack giveaway for the children in attendance, in preparation for the upcoming school year.

Precinct Community Council meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. The next meeting will take place at the 45th Precinct on Thursday, October 3.
